Overview

Zoningo gives independent artists and labels a place to prepare releases, choose distribution destinations, and follow their royalties. The product connects the artist-facing experience to the operational work behind music delivery: account provisioning, media uploads, metadata checks, review, and financial records.

MTB’s scope spans product strategy, UX, full-stack development, and launch. The live site brings those stages into a clear journey and credits MTB Media for the build.

The challenge

Music distribution involves more than uploading a track. Artists need to supply masters, artwork, credits, and release settings, while the distribution team needs enough information to review and deliver the release. A provider response, a review hold, and a delivered release each mean something different.

Royalties add another distinction: reported earnings can still be awaiting settlement. The product needed to keep those states understandable without treating an estimate as money already available to claim.

Our approach

The platform organizes work around artist and label accounts. Artists upload release assets to private storage, complete metadata, and submit through a guided portal. The backend connects to Revelator through durable workflows that provision accounts, validate release details, and queue distribution after the required checks.

Release processing records progress and review states. Rights checks and provider validation can hold a submission for attention before it reaches the distribution queue. This gives the artist-facing experience a concrete operational status to show.

Royalty records use a double-entry ledger with distinct pending, available, payout-pending, and paid balances. Statement imports carry an external reference so the same transaction can be recognized on a retry. Payout onboarding and processing are integrated around Tipalti, with enablement dependent on the configured provider account.

The public experience explains upload, review, distribution, and settlement in plain language. Language and theme controls support the same core journey for a wider audience.

The outcome

The result is a connected music operations platform: release preparation and provider submission share an account model, while royalty reporting retains the distinction between pending earnings and cleared balances. Human review remains a visible part of delivery.

Artists can follow a release and understand the status of their earnings. Delivery and payout stages stay connected to the review and settlement work behind them.
